"New pistols will soon be delivered to the Polish army," Błaszczak said in a tweet.

He added that the defence ministry's "Armaments Agency has signed a contract with Łucznik for the supply of nearly 26,000 Polish-designed Vis 100 pistols in the coming years."

Under a deal announced earlier this year, Łucznik is expected to supply the Polish army with 70,000 latest-generation Grot rifles by 2026.

Poland’s government has named defence as a priority and embarked on a military modernisation drive amid Russia's war in neighbouring Ukraine.

Friday is day 450 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
