The decision comes as a response to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Elisa Ferreira, has said.
Ferreira added that the redirected funds would bolster cooperation between Ukraine, Moldova and the European Union.
The funds will be channeled towards enhancing solidarity corridors, expanding cross-border transport links, and fostering various projects in fields such as healthcare, education and science, according to the European Commission.
The EU has also granted permission for regions in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Poland to join alternative programs not geared toward cooperation with Russia and Belarus.
