Russian military death toll in Ukraine rises to 256,510: report

Around 256,510 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country in February last year, according to Ukrainian military authorities.

The Russians have also lost 4,332 tanks, 8,410 armored fighting vehicles and 5,193 artillery systems during their military campaign in Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

On Thursday alone, Ukrainian forces killed 460 Russian soldiers, according to the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 714 multiple launch rocket systems, 486 air defense systems, 315 warplanes, 316 helicopters, 18 warships, and 4,276 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

A top British military official said last month that "Russia has lost nearly half the combat effectiveness of its army" since invading Ukraine in February last year.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 541 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
