Russian military death toll in Ukraine rises to 259,630: report

Around 259,630 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country in February last year, according to Ukrainian military authorities.

The Russians have also lost 4,378 tanks, 8,521 armored combat vehicles and 5,361 artillery systems during their military campaign in Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

On Thursday alone, Ukrainian forces killed 470 Russian soldiers, according to the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 724 multiple launch rocket systems, 495 air defense systems, 315 warplanes, 316 helicopters, 18 warships, and 4,356 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

A top British military official said last month that "Russia has lost nearly half the combat effectiveness of its army" since invading Ukraine in February last year.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 548 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
