The latest tranche of America’s military aid for Ukraine was announced by the Department of Defense on Thursday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The package “highlights the continued U.S. commitment to meeting Ukraine's pressing requirements by committing critical near-term capabilities, while also building the enduring capacity of Ukraine's Armed Forces to defend its territory and deter Russian aggression over the mid and long term,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
The assistance totals up to USD 600 billion and includes: Equipment to sustain and integrate Ukraine's air defense systems; Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 105mm artillery rounds; Electronic warfare and counter-electronic warfare equipment; Demolition munitions for obstacle clearing; Mine clearing equipment; and Support and equipment for training, maintenance, and sustainment activities, according to officials.
The Pentagon stated: “The United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs and longer-term security assistance requirements.”
On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on a visit to Kyiv announced new aid for Ukraine totaling more than USD 1 billion, including over USD 665 million in new military and civilian security assistance and millions of dollars in support for Ukraine’s air defenses and other areas, the Reuters news agency reported.
Blinken told reporters that since Russia’s February 2022 full-scale aggression against Ukraine, America had provided Kyiv with over USD 43 billion in military assistance, the PAP news agency reported.
Friday is day 562 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
