The new security assistance was announced by Denmark’s defence ministry on Tuesday, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.
Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said Denmark would buy weapons for Ukraine in cooperation with other countries “who are also interested in supporting Ukraine.”
He stressed that Ukraine must continue to be provided with military and economic assistance, so that Kyiv is able “to continue to defend itself against Russia’s illegal invasion,” Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Denmark’s EUR 800 million donation is earmarked for the purchase of tanks, combat vehicles, ammunition and air defence systems for the Ukrainian army, according to PAP.
The funds will be provided in three tranches between 2023 and 2025, Ukrainska Pravda reported.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen “for this timely and powerful assistance.”
Writing on the X social media platform, Zelensky added: “Together, we are restoring peace in Europe.”
Wednesday is day 567 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
