The Canadian defence ministry announced on Sunday that the country would "contribute to the United Kingdom-led partnership that is delivering high priority air defence equipment to Ukraine."
This initiative was established in June by several countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Britain, and the United States, to provide "urgently needed air defence missiles to help Ukraine defend against Russia’s missile and drone attacks," it said.
"Canada will contribute CAD 33 million to the partnership, which is providing Ukraine with hundreds of short- and medium-range air defence missiles and associated systems required to protect Ukraine’s critical national infrastructure," it added.
Since the beginning of 2022, Canada has committed over CAD 8 billion in aid to Ukraine, including over CAD 1.8 billion in military assistance, according to the Canadian defence ministry.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Monday is day 572 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
