Andrzej Duda, who is making a five-day visit to the United States, will first take part in a debate of world leaders at the UN General Assembly, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The Polish president will be the fifth speaker to take the floor, shortly after Biden, who will be the second world leader to speak, according to officials.
Before departing for the United States, Duda told reporters his speech would focus “on the most important issues facing Poland and our part of Europe,” such as “how to ensure security,” including energy security, and especially “security amid Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the resurgence of Russian imperialism.”
The Polish president is then expected to hold bilateral talks with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, focusing on Kyiv’s counteroffensive against Russia and Ukrainian grain exports, the PAP news agency reported.
Duda is then scheduled to speak to reporters at the UN Rose Garden, according to officials.
Also on Tuesday, the Polish president will attend a working lunch with his Baltic counterparts: Lithuania’s Gitanas Nausėda, Latvia’s Edgars Rinkevics and Latvia’s Alar Karis, the PAP news agency reported.
In the evening, the Polish head of state and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda will take part in a reception hosted by the US president to mark the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Duda told reporters he would “exchange a few sentences” with Biden on Ukraine, “to outline the security situation” from Poland’s point of view, according to officials.
On Monday, the Polish president held a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary General António Guterres, focused on “security issues, including the transport of Ukrainian grain,” according to his office.
Duda also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss the security situation and ways to unblock Ukrainian food exports via the Black Sea, the PAP news agency reported.
Both Guterres and Erdoğan were instrumental in brokering the July 2022 Black Sea Grain Initiative designed to unblock Ukrainian ports and allow the export of grain to avert a global food crisis, according to news outlets.
In July this year, Russia quit the deal.
The Polish president’s foreign policy aide, Marcin Przydacz, said Poland “urges diplomatic pressure on Russia to unblock the transport of grain via the Black Sea,” the PAP news agency reported.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Tuesday is day 573 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
