Mariusz Błaszczak made the declaration in the northern town of Wielbark on Friday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s polskieradio24.pl website reported.
The defence minister attended an exercise by the Polish air force, designed to practise using a motorway for military flight operations, according to officials.
Aircraft taking part in the drill included the US-made F-16 fighter jets, reporters were told.
Błaszczak said: “We modernised this motorway strip here between 2020 and 2022. Further motorway strips will also be modernised.”
He added: “It’s extremely important when it comes to the combat readiness of the air force.”
The defence minister stated: “We are preparing the Polish Army to be able to deter an aggressor…. We’ll be using motorway strips in many places around the country.”
Błaszczak also said: “We are strengthening the air force’s defence capabilities and readiness to act when necessary. It’s an investment in our security.”
His statement came as Russia’s war on Ukraine continued for the 583th day.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
