The report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in the country reveals the deadly toll of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Ukrainian civilians, with almost six people killed and 20 wounded on average every single day between February and July this year, according to the news.un.org website.

“In just six months covered by this report more than 1,000 civilians died and nearly 4,000 were injured,” said Danielle Bell, the mission’s head, as quoted on the UN website.

Russian missile attacks against residential areas and vital infrastructure, as well as grain and agricultural facilities, continue to sow fear and destruction across Ukraine, according to the report, which was published on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, civilians in areas occupied by Russia face torture, ill-treatment, sexual violence and arbitrary detention, the UN mission said.

Hundreds remain imprisoned, with their families unaware of their fate, it added.

The report also raised concern over the fate of Ukrainian children deported to Russia or transferred to other locations within occupied areas, according to news.un.org.

Polish President Andrzej Duda has urged the international community to ensure that Russian war crimes in Ukraine are "prosecuted to the fullest extent" and that all victims receive fair compensation for their suffering.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Thursday is day 589 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
