Ukraine’s military command issued the latest update from the frontlines on Facebook in the early hours of Wednesday.
Ukrainian forces “continue assault operations” south of the city of Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region, as they “inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidate their new positions,” officials in Kyiv said.
At the same time, Ukrainian troops “continue their offensive operation” towards the port of Melitopol in Zaporizhzhia, according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
There, Ukrainian forces are “inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, exhausting the enemy all along the front line,” Ukraine’s military authorities said.
Meanwhile, Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces had “transferred a limited number of armoured vehicles” to the east (left) bank of the southern Kherson region, the Institute for the Study of War reported on Tuesday night.
Ukraine’s troops are “continuing larger-than-usual ground operations on the east bank with a light infantry grouping of roughly battalion size,” according to these sources, the US think tank said.
Overall, Ukrainian and Russian forces on Tuesday clashed 45 times in frontline combat, the General Staff in Kyiv reported.
Russian strikes
Russia on Tuesday conducted six missile attacks, 50 air strikes and 64 attacks from multiple-launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops, as well as at civilian settlements, according to Ukrainian officials.
For instance, Russian forces shelled Ukraine's northeastern Sumy province 26 times, causing over 100 explosions across five communities, The Kyiv Independent website reported.
Tuesday’s attacks by Russia brought casualties and injuries among civilians, while also destroying or damaging residential buildings and other civilian facilities, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
Ukrainian attacks
Meanwhile, Ukraine on Tuesday launched 17 air strikes on concentrations of Russian troops as well as on Russian weapons and military hardware sites, officials in Kyiv announced.
Ukraine also carried out four air strikes on Russia’s anti-aircraft missile systems, according to the Ukrainian military.
In addition, Ukraine on Tuesday fired missiles into seven Russian artillery systems, two Russian command posts, one Russian fuel and lubricant depot, one concentration of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment, one Russian air defence system, two Russian radar stations and one Russian electronic warfare station, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.
Wednesday is day 623 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
