Ukrainian troops on Monday expanded their zone of control on the east (left) bank of the Dnipro river in Kherson province, the Kyiv Post reported on Tuesday morning.

Ukrainian forces are based in Krynky, 2 km inland from the river, and 30 km northeast from Kherson City, as fighting continues, the website said.

Russian forces continued to fire thermobaric artillery on Ukrainian soldiers’ positions there, according to geolocated footage published on Monday.

The stated aim of Ukraine's push to the left bank of the Dnipro is to prevent Russian shelling of Ukrainian civilians, especially near Kherson City, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops on Monday also continued their counteroffensive against Russia near the city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region, and towards the port of Melitopol in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia province, the General Staff in Kyiv said on Tuesday morning.

Ukrainian troops on Monday inflicted losses "in manpower and equipment" on Russia's army in both those directions, according to Ukraine's military authorities.

Russian forces on Monday conducted "offensive operations along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut, near Avdiivka, west and southwest of Donetsk City, in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast," the ISW reported.

Russian troops "marginally advanced in some areas," according to the US think tank.

In all, Ukrainian and Russian forces clashed in 70 combat engagements on Monday, the General Staff in Kyiv reported.

As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through the Zaporizhzhia region in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake the city of Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives, according to news outlets.

US announces USD 100 million in new military aid for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden on Monday approved USD 100 million in new military assistance for Ukraine, The Kyiv Independent website reported.

The package includes Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and additional ammunition, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, as well as Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, among other items, according to the Pentagon.

Tuesday is day 636 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
