The two also discussed enhancing bilateral relations and agreed on the need to strengthen them politically and economically, the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

Another topic of the talks was "the security situation in the Indo-Pacific area," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

It said Sikorski thanked Peters for New Zealand's "critical stance towards Russian aggression in Ukraine, including regular implementation of sanctions packages strengthening the international sanctions regime."

Peters wrote in an X post that he and Sikorski talked about "New Zealand and Poland's warm bilateral relationship; our shared values; and support for Ukraine" during their conversation on Monday evening.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tuesday is day 741 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
