Ukraine's air defence systems destroyed two of the three missiles launched by Russia overnight, military authorities said on Sunday morning, as cited by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.

"On the night of June 23, 2024, the enemy attacked with three Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles from the Sea of Azov," Ukraine's Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.

"Two missiles were shot down by anti-aircraft missile units of the air force in the Kyiv region," Oleshchuk added, as quoted by Ukrinform.

Falling debris injured two people in the area, according to Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv region's administration.

Debris also damaged six apartment buildings and more than 20 private houses, Kravchenko said.

In addition, a gas station, a pharmacy, an administrative building and several cars were damaged in the Kyiv region, the Reuters news agency reported.

Kyiv, its surrounding region and several others across Ukraine were under air raid alerts for about an hour on Sunday morning, starting at 4:50 a.m. local time, according to Reuters.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Sunday is day 851 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
