The incident occurred near the city of Kreminna in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, where armed actions are currently taking place.
For security reasons, the specific medical facility where the wounded volunteer from the group of about 40 combat medics assisted by the "In the meantime" foundation was transferred from Ukraine to Poland has not been disclosed to the public.
"One of our combat medics was hit in the leg by shrapnel during artillery shelling. The wound is serious enough that he had to be evacuated to Poland. He was taken to a hospital in Lublin, where he is undergoing treatment," confirmed Damian Duda to PAP, president of the "In the meantime" foundation, which provides free medical assistance to wounded soldiers fighting on the front line in Ukraine.
"At the moment, the situation is stable. We are fighting for his leg. Infection has set in; only after its control will we be able to think about further treatment, tissue reconstruction, and rehabilitation," added Damian Duda who regularly showcases the work of combat medics in Ukraine through social media.
