According to the analysis in this week's Rzeczpospolita, Russia's attempt to penalise "unfriendly countries", especially Poland, with a sharp increase in import duties is mainly going to hurt the Russian economy.
Russia has singled out countries which have been most vocal in their condemnation of its invasion of Ukraine and in calling for sanctions against Russia.
In a tit-for-tat move, the Kremlin has drawn up a list of products and countries where import duties are supposed to hit hardest. Cosmetic and chemical products from Poland face the largest increase.
However, the Rzeczpospolita piece claims this will only exacerbate Russian inflation. Reuters has reported a survey of economists expecting Russia's central bank to raise interest rates from 16 to 18% at the end of this month to combat inflation.
