According to a statement by the US Department of Defense, the new package includes USD 200 million worth of weapons and equipment, and around USD 1.5 billion in funds "to augment Ukraine's air defenses, fires, and anti-tank weapons, as well as funding to sustain equipment previously committed by the United States."
The aim is to provide Ukraine with "key capabilities, including air defense interceptors, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, and anti-tank weapons."
The package contains "munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS); short- and medium-range air defense munitions; RIM-7 missiles for air defense; electronic warfare equipment; and ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)," according to the Pentagon.
Washington will also provide Kyiv with "155mm and 105mm artillery rounds; 120mm mortar rounds; precision aerial munitions; Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles; and Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems."
Other capabilities include "small arms; explosives material and demolitions equipment and munitions; secure communications systems; commercial satellite imagery services; and spare parts, maintenance and sustainment support, and other ancillary equipment," the statement said on Monday.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has committed more than USD 55.4 billion in security assistance to help the country defend itself, the US Department of Defense said.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Monday is day 887 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
