The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace."

It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."

The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early on Monday, with the Operational Command cautioning the public of "increased noise levels, particularly in the southeast of the country" near the Ukrainian border.

The alert was in effect until around 7:30 a.m., when the Operational Command said Russia had ended its "long-range missile strikes against targets in Ukraine," Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine in the early hours of Monday, targeting various regions across the country, including the capital Kyiv, according to officials.

The Ukrainian air force said it shot down 22 of 35 missiles and 20 of 23 attack drones launched by Russia on Monday morning.

It added that it had destroyed nine ballistic missiles and 13 cruise missiles in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 922 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
