During the call, the two "addressed the military situation at the frontline of the Ukrainian-Russian war" and "also discussed possible solutions to historical problems in Polish-Ukrainian relations," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

Sikorski and Sybiha "also talked about plans for future bilateral cooperation," the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

It added that Sikorski congratulated Sybiha on his recent appointment as Ukraine’s foreign minister to replace Dmytro Kuleba.

"It was the first conversation with Minister Sybiha in his new capacity as Ukraine’s foreign minister," the statement said, clarifying that the politicians spoke in Polish.

Sybiha wrote on X in Polish that he and Sikorski confirmed "the Ukrainian-Polish strategic partnership and good-neighborly relations" during their conversation on Friday morning.

He added that he thanked Poland for its support for his country and provided Sikorski with the latest information on the situation on the front line.

Sybiha said he emphasized the importance of further strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities.

"Ukraine and Poland have a common enemy and a shared goal of maintaining strong bilateral ties," Sybiha wrote in his X post.

"As a sign of respect, we held the conversation in Polish," he added.

"I look forward to welcoming my Polish colleague to Kyiv," he declared.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 926 of Russia’war on Ukraine.
