The report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in the country reveals the devastating impact of Russia's full-scale invasion on civilians, highlighting a persistent trend of rising civilian casualties, according to the ukraine.ohchr.org website.
Nine children were killed and 76 injured in Ukraine in September; 46 percent of those killed were older than 60 years, it said.
“Attacks using missiles across the country and aerial glide bombs, particularly against the cities of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, contributed to the high casualty numbers,” the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission said.
Near the frontline, attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) accounted for a large portion of the casualties, according to the report.
Meanwhile, the vast majority of civilian casualties and damage to educational and health facilities in September continued to occur in territory controlled by Ukraine, the UN mission said.
At least 30 attacks damaged or destroyed energy infrastructure, it added.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Sunday is day 963 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
