Poland has been waiting for nearly a year for the European Union to repay the expenses of armaments provided to Ukraine.

According to Beata Płomecka, a correspondent for Polish Radio in Brussels, a compromise proposal to bypass Hungary’s veto has not yet been approved, although the EU’s foreign policy chief hoped for an agreement by Monday.

Josep Borrell, the EU's top diplomat, proposed a plan calling for voluntary contributions to a fund from which countries would be reimbursed for weapons provided to Ukraine, but Hungary would be excluded.

After initial support, concerns arose over setting a precedent and a lack of willingness to fund the fund, leading to the blockage of payments, which can only be unlocked if Hungary lifts its veto.

EU top diplomat calls for suspension of dialogue with Israel over Gaza violations

Borrell is also calling for the suspension of dialogue with Israel due to potential violations of international law in the Gaza Strip.

Deutsche Welle reports that his proposal is expected to be included in a letter to EU foreign ministers, who are scheduled to meet in Brussels on Monday, November 18.
