"A plan has been adopted to increase rapid reaction capabilities," Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters.

"In practice, it is an increase in the capabilities of protection, especially of the eastern flank of NATO, notably Poland, by all allied forces," he added.

Kosiniak-Kamysz and his counterparts from other NATO countries gathered in Brussels this week for a two-day meeting to discuss defence spending, the alliance's deterrence and defence posture, and the security of its eastern flank, according to the Polish government.

The gathering also focused on Europe's response to Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine and further Western support for Kyiv, news outlets reported.

The Polish defence minister told reporters in Brussels that NATO allies—"not only those from the Baltic region, but also France, Belgium and our other allies"—had agreed to coordinate efforts to protect critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea.

The EU's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas declared on Thursday that Europe would continue to support Ukraine if it resists the terms of a peace deal between Russia and the United States that Kyiv has not agreed to, the Reuters news agency reported.

Kallas argued that Europe and Ukraine must be involved in peace talks for any agreement to be effective, adding that it was not "good tactics" to concede to Russia’s demands before negotiations have even begun, according to Reuters.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Thursday marks the 1,085th day of the war.
