Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Radosław Sikorski expressed cautious optimism about these strategies, calling them hopeful despite their unconventional nature.

"General Kellogg has presented to me personally and to the circle of European allies the United States' negotiating tactics," Sikorski was quoted as saying by Reuters.

"I will not reveal them here. They raise some hopes. They are unorthodox, but we wish them luck", he added.

US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, General Keith Kellogg is expected in Warsaw next week for key talks with top officials.

US President Donald Trump shocked European leaders on Wednesday when he said he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin and ordered talks on Ukraine to begin "immediately".

The announcement spread fear among European leaders that they would be excluded from the negotiations to end the war.

The subject was at the top of the agenda at a three-day security meeting in Munich that opened on Friday.

France is expected to hold an emergency European summit on Ukraine on Monday.
