Speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, Macron called on Russia to accept a 30-day ceasefire without preconditions, a stance already agreed upon by Ukraine in talks with Saudi Arabia.

President Zelensky shared a message on his X (formerly Twitter) profile to personally thank President Macron "and the entire French nation for their unwavering, principled, and meaningful support for Ukraine."

„Right now, much can and must be done to ensure true security in Europe and stability for all our people - together with France and all partners in Europe and beyond,” highlighted the Ukrainian leader.

Macron: Russia's actions show it wants to continue the war in Ukraine

Macron emphasized that a resolution on lifting sanctions would depend on Russia’s commitment to international law, noting the contrast with Ukraine, which has shown willingness for peace without preconditions while Russia continues to set demands.

The French President pledged an additional €2 billion in military aid to Ukraine, which includes anti-tank missiles, Mica missiles for Mistral aircraft, and reconnaissance vehicles.

"Today, I was able to announce an additional €2 billion in military support for Ukraine. Tomorrow, we will mobilize our partners gathered in Paris to continue this support for Ukraine’s resistance," Macron said ahead of Thursday's summit.

Zelensky urges peacekeepers and sustained sanctions on Russia

He also highlighted a potential international peacekeeping force, which would not be stationed on the front lines but would help prevent further Russian aggression, ensuring stability in the region.

Zelensky, for his part, emphasized that such a force would help monitor the situation and prevent Russia from resuming its hostile actions.

Additionally, Zelensky insisted on continued sanctions on Russia until the country is ready to end the war.
