Lin Jian emphasized that the Chinese government consistently advises its citizens to stay away from conflict zones, avoid any involvement in military activities, and refrain from participating in operations on either side of a conflict.

“The Chinese side’s position on the issue of the Ukraine crisis is clear and unequivocal, and has won widespread approval from the international community,” he added.

On Tuesday, President Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces had captured two Chinese nationals fighting alongside Russia in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. He also highlighted that there are likely more Chinese citizens within Russian forces.

The detained individuals are currently being held by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), where investigations and operations are underway.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government continues to adopt a neutral stance on Russia's invasion, referring to it as a "crisis" and opposing Western sanctions on Moscow, while insisting that it does not provide weapons to either side, despite growing military ties with Russia.
