Poland’s Ministry of Interior and Administration has announced a new draft law that will remove the special privileges previously granted to regugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Details of the new regulations will be clarified after consultations with over ministries responsible for suport in specific areas, the Ministry of Interior and Administration said.

The move follows a previously vetoed amendment to the law on aid for Ukrainian citizens, backed by the right-wing PiS-aligned president. It aimes to phase out certain assistance measures for Ukrainians residing in Poland.

The new regulations would mainly restrict benefits for those staying in Poland short-term, including access to healthcare services and medication programs.

„Polish citizenship comes with an obligation to respect cultural and legal norms,” the ministry said. that The proposed changes will be presented soon, and the president will be invited for a discussion.
