President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said last week that Kyiv had proposed an agreement with the United States focused on countering drones, offering its technology and battlefield experience against Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles and their modified versions.
According to Reuters, the US delegation is led by White House Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and White House envoy Jared Kushner. Ukraine is represented by senior officials including the head of the presidential office, Kyrylo Budanov, and his deputy Serhii Kyslytsia.
The meeting comes as broader peace efforts remain stalled. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 20 that trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States were on pause, citing developments related to Iran.
Previous rounds of negotiations took place in Geneva in February. Planned follow-up meetings in Abu Dhabi and later again in Geneva or Istanbul were postponed amid tensions in the Middle East. Moscow and Kyiv say they are continuing separate contacts with Washington.
