Russia fired 47 missiles and 619 drones, Ukrainian Air Force said, with 610 intercepted. Strikes hit the Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Odesa and Kharkiv regions.

At least two people died in the central-eastern city of Dnipro, where five residential buildings and several industrial facilities were damaged and fires broke out.

Five people may still be trapped under rubble, with 21 wounded, local authorities said.

In Kharkiv, drones struck apartment blocks and civilian infrastructure, damaging a gas pipeline and wounding two people, including an 18-month-old boy, the city's mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

"Most of the targets were ordinary urban infrastructure. Residential buildings, energy facilities and businesses were damaged", Zelensky wrote on social media, calling on partners to take "immediate and decisive action" to bolster Ukraine's air defenses.

Air raid alerts were declared across all regions of Ukraine, including the western oblasts of Volyn, Lviv and Zakarpattia bordering Poland.

Poland's Operational Command said it scrambled fighter jets and an early warning aircraft, and raised ground-based air defense and radar systems to a higher state of readiness as a precautionary measure. No violation of Polish airspace was recorded.
