The Center for Countering Disinformation (CPD), a Ukrainian government body, said the video purports to show Yevhen Karas, commander of Ukraine's 413th Separate Drone Forces Regiment, making the remarks.

"In reality, this is a video generated by artificial intelligence. This fake is a classic example of a deepfake, as confirmed by specialized media verification services", the CPD said on Facebook Thursday evening.

The center said the fabricated video is being spread on TikTok through an account impersonating a Ukrainian outlet covering the activities of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS). It said the video's aim is to stoke hostility between Ukrainians and Poles and undermine Polish support for Ukraine.

The CPD described the deepfake as part of a broader Russian disinformation campaign to damage Ukrainian-Polish relations, one that it said has intensified ahead of July 11, Poland's National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide Committed by Ukrainian Nationalists against Citizens of the Second Polish Republic.
