Zbigniew Rau sent the message in a social media video.
He said that “Poles based abroad remain important partners in setting Polish foreign policy."
“I thank each of you for cultivating Polish culture and tradition,” Rau said.
“I thank you for your loyalty to the language and faith of our forefathers,” he added.
‘Thank you for your love of our shared homeland'
The foreign minister told Poles abroad: “I thank you for your love of our shared homeland.”
He concluded: “Allow me to offer you my best wishes, of prosperity, joy and success in your private and professional lives."
Established by parliament in 2002, the Day of Poles Abroad on May 2 is an annual celebration of the major role the diaspora has played in Polish history, according to officials.
Since 2004, May 2 has also been Polish Flag Day.
War in Ukraine shows sovereignty 'is not given once and for all': official
Meanwhile, a Polish deputy interior minister said on Monday that the war in Ukraine showed that "independence, sovereignty and national colours ... are not given once and for all.”
Paweł Szefernaker quoted one of the fathers of Poland's independence, Marshal Józef Piłsudski, who warned Poles in 1918 that their newly acquired sovereignty "isn't given once and for all," the PAP news agency reported.
“We’ve been celebrating Polish Flag Day and taking it for granted,” Szefernaker told a gathering in the northwestern Polish port city of Świnoujście.
“But the situation in Ukraine shows that independence, sovereignty, national colours and symbols are not given once and for all,” he said.
Monday was day 68 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
