Wojciech Skurkiewicz made the announcement in a media interview on Friday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The deputy defence minister was asked if Poland would step up modernisation of its army following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent announcement.
Putin on Wednesday ordered a partial mobilisation of 300,000 reservists to fight in Ukraine and warned the West he was ready to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia.
Bayraktar drones, Patriot systems, K2 tanks
Skurkiewicz told private broadcaster Radio Wnet: “We are in talks with partners over the upcoming deliveries, and besides the equipment we are ordering today, several orders are being processed.”
He added: “Already in October, the Polish army will receive a supply of the Bayraktar combat drones which are performing brilliantly in Ukraine.”
“In the fourth quarter of this year, the Polish army is set to be equipped with the US Patriot air-defence systems, which will also provide a significant boost to our anti-missile and anti-aircraft defences,” the official said.
Skurkiewicz noted that Poland was also set to obtain the first batch of the K2 Black Panther main battle tanks from South Korea in late 2022.
“The Polish army will definitely start to receive this Korean equipment at the turn of the year,” he told the interview.
Strengthening Polish army
Last year, Poland ordered 24 Bayraktar TB 2 combat drones from Turkey, to be delivered between 2022 and 2024.
In 2018, Poland ordered two batteries of the Patriot air-defence system from the US.
In June 2022, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced that the government would purchase six more Patriot batteries.
Meanwhile, the K2 tanks are part of a larger order for South Korean military equipment, approved by Błaszczak in the summer, the PAP news agency reported.
Friday is day 212 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
