Daniel S. had three university degrees, as well as having undergone extensive military training, including at Poland’s elite special-forces unit GROM, the onet.pl website said.
After volunteering for combat in Ukraine, he served in Kyiv’s elite special troops as a member of a reconnoitering team.
Daniel S. died on November 25 as a result of injuries sustained during a mission on the Russian side of the frontline, the PAP news agency reported.
His team was tasked with carrying out a detailed reconnaissance of the Russian positions in preparation for a Ukrainian attack.
According to reports, during the mission, a sapper teammate walked into a booby trap.
Daniel S., who was walking behind the sapper with the rest of the team, suffered deadly wounds from the resulting explosion, according to onet.pl.
He died from the injuries while being transported to the hospital, the Polish website reported.
Col. Krzysztof Przepiórka, a former GROM commander and one of Daniel S.’s mentors, paid tribute to “a smashing, cool, friendly spirit,” who was “better trained than most professional soldiers.”
“I can’t come to terms with his death. I’m lost for words,” Przepiórka said, as quoted by the PAP news agency.
Earlier this week, two Polish citizens were killed on the frontlines of Ukraine’s war against Russian aggression, PAP reported.
The death toll among Polish volunteers fighting Russia's aggression against Ukraine is now six, according to onet.pl's Marcin Wyrwał.
Thursday is day 288 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
