Joe Biden will likely travel to Poland near the end of the month, NBC News reported on Monday night, citing three people familiar with the plan.
The sources noted that the visit was not final until the White House confirmed it and the plans could change, Polish state news agency reported.
NBC reported last month that Biden was considering a trip to Europe, including potentially Poland, to mark one year since Russia’s brutal assault, highlighting Ukraine’s resilience in the face of the invasion and emphasising America’s solidarity with the Ukrainian nation, according to officials.
"I’m going to be going to Poland; I don’t know when, though,” Biden said last week, responding to a question from Polish Radio’s Washington correspondent Marek Wałkuski.
US-European unity
A trip to Europe would also give Biden an opportunity to foster greater unity within the US-European alliance, NBC reported.
The US president stressed the importance of that unity last month as he announced that America would send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
"I’ve been saying this a long time — the expectation on the part of Russia is we’re going to break up, we’re not going to stay united. But we are fully, thoroughly, totally united," Biden said.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the Biden administration has committed more than USD 29.3 billion in security assistance to Kyiv, according to the Pentagon, the PAP news agency reported.
Tuesday is day 349 of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
