The bank said at the end of last week that the funds would be used to "repair and restore Ukraine's bridges and railways, which are crucial for supporting humanitarian relief and recovery as well as increasing the country's import and export corridors."

The World Bank also announced additional funding for Ukraine of up to USD 535 million "envisaged to follow shortly."

The bank's Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde, said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine "continues to have devastating economic and humanitarian consequences."

She added that “Ukraine needs urgent investments to repair damaged essential transport routes."

According to World Bank estimates, "upwards of 2,100 villages, 51 towns, and 35 cities in areas that have returned to Government of Ukraine control are experiencing disrupted transport networks due to war."

Monday is day 355 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
