Poland’s Mateusz Morawiecki and Estonia’s Kaja Kallas held talks in Warsaw on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The two leaders focused their discussions on security issues as well as bilateral and regional cooperation, according to officials.

'Courage to react in the right way'

At a joint news conference, the Polish prime minister thanked his Estonian counterpart for visiting Warsaw.

Morawiecki told reporters: “We talked about all the key topics related to Ukraine, NATO and the EU.”

He added: “I am glad that we have such a friend in Estonia - a country that thinks in the same way about all these matters.”

The Polish prime minister praised Estonia’s support for Ukraine’s defence against the Russian invasion.

He said: “I would like to emphasise the huge effort Estonia is making regarding the war in Ukraine. An effort that is recognised around the world.”

Morawiecki stated: “It is significant that the nations that are closest to a powerful neighbour find the greatest courage to react in the right way.”

'We face the same threats'

The Polish prime minister told reporters that Poland and Estonia were working well together amid shared threats.

He told the news conference: “We face the same threats but also believe in long-term cooperation.”

Morawiecki stated: “Our economic partnership is going very well. Poland and Estonia are very successful in digitising public administration processes. Our countries speak with one voice in the European Council.”

The Polish prime minister further said that both Poland and Estonia “count on our NATO allies, but we also want them to be able to count on us.”

He said: “That is why our joint actions are crucial, and the solidarity between Poland and Estonia is an example of this.”

Poland, Estonia located 'too close to Russia to be neutral’

Morawiecki also told reporters that Poland and Estonia “are too close to Russia to be neutral.”

He added: “That is why we are not only working together to strengthen the security guarantees for Ukraine, but we have also been working together to ensure that Finland and Sweden join NATO as soon as possible.”

The Polish prime minister later tweeted: “Once again Kaja Kallas congratulations on your re-appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia.”

Morawiecki added: “Satisfaction with our partnership in international security matters. Poland remains committed to the security of Estonia and other Baltic states. Our regular participation in Baltic Air Policing is the best expression of this.”

‘Poland is our close friend, excellent ally in NATO’: Estonian PM

Meanwhile, Estonia’s Kallas said that “Poland is our close friend and an excellent ally in NATO and partner in the European Union.”

She added that “Poland’s role in NATO’s collective defence and in our regional security is increasingly crucial."

She thanked Poland for its “crucial role in supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom.”

The Estonian prime minister told reporters: “Poland has given historic amounts of military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine ... You have received millions of war refugees. You’ve helped ensure tougher sanctions on Russia. You have been at the forefront of mobilizing international support to Ukraine.”

She declared: “This work must continue as the war is far from over ... We will continue to raise the cost of the war for Moscow until Ukraine wins the war.”

Tuesday is day 426 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
