Speaking at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, cited the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which documented 16,384 civilian injuries alongside the fatalities, with the majority resulting from fire by Russian armed forces.

The staggering toll of civilian casualties encompasses 537 children killed and 1,117 wounded, underlining the devastating impact of the conflict on the most vulnerable members of society. DiCarlo added that these figures only represent confirmed deaths and injuries, suggesting that the actual number may be considerably higher.

According to the UN report, Ukraine witnessed the highest number of child casualties and incidents of shelling targeting schools and hospitals in the preceding year. The Donetsk and Luhansk regions bore the brunt of casualties, surpassing all other regions in terms of the human toll inflicted by the conflict.
