Six of the victims were hospitalised with moderate wounds, regional governor Serhiy Lysak said, as cited by the Reuters news agency.

Some transport infrastructure was damaged in the attack, he added.

About a dozen buildings, including a bank and a hotel, were damaged, according to Lysak.

Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said the Russians conducted the attack using weapons including two Iskander-M ballistic missiles "launched from the Rostov region."

He added, as quoted by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform: "We know what it is, we know how dangerous it is and we know that we have limited time to really respond to this threat."

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Thursday is day 547 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Thursday, August 24, also marks 32 years since Ukraine regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
