The bodies of two people were found in a nonresidential building after debris from targets destroyed by Ukrainian air defences fell on several buildings in the city, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, as cited by the Reuters news agency.
Klitschko wrote on the Telegram messaging app that one person was injured by glass shards in the Ukrainian capital, according to Reuters.
Serhiy Popko, the head of the city's military administration, said on Telegram that "Kyiv has not experienced such a powerful attack since spring."
He added that "the enemy launched a massive, combined attack using drones and missiles," Reuters reported.
In all, Ukraine's air defence forces "destroyed more than 20 enemy targets," Popko said, as quoted by Reuters.
In the wider Kyiv region, more than six private houses were damaged and three people were injured by fragments of downed Russian missiles and Shahed drones, Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.
Kyiv region police chief Andriy Niebytov said on Telegram that a 69-year-old woman "received burns as her house caught fire due to falling debris," and two men, aged 43 and 49, "received minor cuts," according to Ukrinform.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Wednesday is day 553 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
