Russia said it shot down unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs) over at least six of its western regions, and foiled a Ukrainian naval attack on the annexed Crimean peninsula, the Reuters news agency reported.

The Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Orlov, Ryazan and Moscow regions were targeted, according to Russian officials.

They said the most significant attack was in Pskov about 660 km north of the Ukrainian border, where four Il-76 military transport planes were damaged, according to Reuters.

Ukraine has struck deep into Russia in recent months, including numerous drone attacks on targets in Moscow and neighbouring areas, news outlets reported.

In early May, Ukraine dismissed Russian claims that it had attempted to assassinate Vladimir Putin by attacking the Kremlin with two drones, according to reports at the time.

Last Friday, Ukraine fired a missile toward Moscow and attacked Crimea with a total of 42 drones, according to Russian officials.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 553 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
