Russian military death toll in Ukraine rises to 285,920: report

Around 285,920 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country in February last year, according to Ukrainian military authorities.

The Russians have also lost 4,931 tanks, 9,313 armored combat vehicles and 6,807 artillery systems during their military campaign in Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by state news agency Ukrinform.

On Thursday alone, Ukrainian forces killed 1,030 Russian soldiers, according to the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 811 multiple launch rocket systems, 546 air defense systems, 316 warplanes, 316 helicopters, 20 warships, and 5,264 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

A top British military official said in the summer that "Russia has lost nearly half the combat effectiveness of its army" since invading Ukraine in February last year.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 597 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
