Civilians killed in Russian attack on Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia: officials

Two civilians were killed and at least four others were injured after an apartment building was destroyed in a Russian air attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Wednesday, regional officials said.

"Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site," Anatoliy Kurtiev, secretary of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, said on the Telegram messaging app, as cited by the Reuters news agency.

Yuriy Malashko, governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, said that eight apartment buildings were damaged in the Russian missile attack, according to Reuters.

The city of Zaporizhzhia is the administrative centre of the broader Zaporizhzhia region in southeastern Ukraine, which is now partially controlled by Russia, Reuters reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
