Vasyl Zvarych made the appeal at a conference on international support for Ukraine, at the Polish Prime Minister's Office in Warsaw on Monday, public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.
The Ukrainian ambassador said that "the border should be unblocked" and "should be untouchable," in line with the two countries' "strategic interests" asnd to help ensure that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is defeated.
On November 6, Polish transport companies launched a blockade of the Hrebenne, Dorohusk and Korczowa checkpoints, demanding that the European Union reinstate permits for Ukrainian freight carriers entering the bloc.
On Friday, Polish truckers said they would also block the border crossing in Medyka starting this week, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
At Monday's conference, Jadwiga Emilewicz, the Polish government's commissioner for Polish-Ukrainian development cooperation, said that Poland's transport sector had to "meet the EU's challenging requirements" as the country became the EU's transport hub in recent years.
She appealed to Ukraine for "an understanding of the situation" as both countries "seek a constructive solution" to the truckers' protest.
Zvarych also called on Poland to support Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO, according to the IAR news agency.
Emilewicz said Poland was ready to provide such assistance and had already launched training courses for Ukrainian authorities, with 100 central and regional officials from Ukraine set to be trained every year.
Monday is day 635 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
