Illia Kyva was found killed by gunshot in the village of Suponevo in the Moscow region, Poland's dorzeczy.pl website reported on Wednesday night.
Ukrainian outlets including Suspilne cited sources in Kyiv's law enforcement agencies as saying that Kyva was killed by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).
The Russian Main Investigative Directorate for the Moscow Region confirmed that "unspecified actors" had killed Kyva in Suponevo, adding that he received "two gunshots while walking in a park," according to dorzeczy.pl.
Kyva defected to Russia at the start of the Kremlin's February 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the US-based Institute for the Study of War said.
In March last year, Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada parliament stripped Kyva of his lawmaker's mandate, dorzeczy.pl reported.
In November this year, a Ukrainian court sentenced the former MP to 14 years in absentia on charges of treason, Russia's independent outlet Meduza reported.
In September 2022, Kyva claimed on social media that Poland was seeking to "negotiate with Russia over the fate of western Ukraine," according to dorzeczy.pl.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Thursday is day 652 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
