Russia conducted two airstrikes on Toretsk at noon on Thursday, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.

Russian aircraft dropped two bombs on the city's civilian facilities, killing three people and injuring five others, the prosecutor's office for the Donetsk region said.

The type of munitions used on Toretsk was being determined by Ukrainian authorities, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.

All five injured persons were taken to hospital for required medical care, officials said.

Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region is the site for some of the heaviest fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces, such as the ongoing Russian assault on Avdiivka, according to news outlets.

Russia also shells the province's cities and villages on a daily basis, including those relatively far from the frontlines, RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.

On December 7, Russia struck a coal mine in Toretsk with a missile, injuring one person and causing significant damage, according to news outlets.

Thursday is day 666 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
