America's State Department announced the fresh tranche of support on Wednesday night.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that "the year’s final package of weapons and equipment for Ukraine" included air defense munitions, other air defense system components, and additional ammunition for high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS).

The latest US assistance to Ukraine also comprises 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, anti-armor munitions, and over 15 million rounds of ammunition, according to officials in Washington.

The State Department said that a "coalition of more than 50 countries continues to provide critical support for Ukraine’s forces" as they "defend their country and their freedom against Russia’s aggression."

Blinken called on US lawmakers to "act swiftly, as soon as possible, to advance our national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself and secure its future."

President Biden has repeatedly urged Congress to "stand with Ukraine" and approve the new USD 61 billion aid package for Kyiv.

The White House has warned that otherwise by the end of this year American aid will run out to help Ukraine fight the Russian invasion, the Reuters news agency reported.

The US Senate is expected to hold a vote on the USD 61 billion Ukraine aid package in early 2024, according to news outlets.

The package would then have to be approved by the House of Representatives, controlled by the Republicans, who have demanded that Biden pair the Ukraine aid with tougher border policies, The Kyiv Independent website reported.

Thursday is day 673 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
