Over the last two years, the Polish Red Cross (PCK) has provided aid to some 1.8 million Ukrainians, with the value of this support exceeding PLN 304 million (76 million USD) in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.

The PCK has delivered 965 shipments of aid to Ukraine, carrying food, hygiene products, medical supplies and power generators, which are critical for schools and hospitals.

Additionally, the Polish Red Cross has facilitated over 9,000 medical services at the Polish-Ukrainian border, primarily for women, children and the elderly, and distributed food, drinking water, blankets and warm clothing to those in need.

Recognizing the long-term needs of refugees, the Polish Red Cross has established modern integration centers to offer vocational and language courses, legal and psychological consultations, and activities for children and seniors.

These efforts are part of the Livelihoods Centre program, funded by the Spanish Red Cross, aimed at promoting social integration and professional advancement of Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

Psychological support has also been a key component of the ongoing assistance effort, as four out of five Ukrainians report having experienced trauma either personally or through direct family members.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have offered psychological assistance to 1.2 million Ukrainians, with nearly all calls to the PCK's helpline coming from Ukrainians living in Poland.

Additionally, the National Information and Search Office of the Polish Red Cross has received over 8,000 enquiries through its Restoring Family Links program, which extends efforts to reconnect families separated by the war.

The war has forced 10 million Ukrainians to flee their homes, with 6.3 million seeking refuge abroad and 3.7 million displaced within Ukraine itself.

The PCK's response to this refugee crisis has ranged from immediate humanitarian aid to long-term support. Despite "compassion fatigue," the organization continues its efforts to support Ukraine, underscoring the global solidarity and the critical role of humanitarian assistance in a time of crisis.

Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross commented: "The Polish Red Cross is a long-standing friend and a trustworthy partner of the Ukrainian Red Cross. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Poland and the volunteers of the Polish Red Cross have become reliable support for Ukrainians."

He added: "Poland was the first place of refuge for our mothers and children. It must be emphasized that the Polish Red Cross also supports victims in Ukraine. The assistance provided is invaluable; millions of Ukrainians have felt kindness, care and humanity."

Poland has become a first refuge for millions of Ukrainians, with the Polish Red Cross playing a pivotal role from the beginning of the full-scale war.

The organization has mobilized 10,000 volunteers across 200 locations, offering unwavering support to the displaced.

This commitment was recognized in 2023 when the Polish Red Cross received the International Humanitarian Service Award from the American Red Cross in Washington.
