"Our agreement is practically already fully prepared," Tusk stated after the EU summit in Brussels.

Tusk emphasized the need to carefully balance further assistance to Ukraine with maintaining Poland's own defense capabilities. "We don't want and cannot weaken Poland's defense capabilities. There are still some details to be worked out," he said, noting that these are more about specific wording rather than fundamental disagreements.

During a meeting in Brussels, Tusk assured Zelenskyy of Poland's support. "I said very clearly: we will help, because your security is our security. But we will not do anything that will weaken our direct security and capabilities. We are talking about fighters and armaments, which are sometimes as necessary for Poland as for Ukraine," Tusk explained.

"I can say 99 percent that in Warsaw, even before the NATO summit, we will sign this agreement together with President Zelenskyy," he added.

The NATO summit is scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington, marking the alliance's 75th anniversary. During his visit to Brussels, Zelenskyy also signed a security agreement with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council head Charles Michel. The agreement commits the EU to provide Ukraine with necessary political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support, media reported.
