Poland's Andrzej Duda and Finland's Alexander Stubb held one-on-one talks in the Polish capital on issues including support for Ukraine against Russia, according to officials.

The Polish President's Office said that the talks focused on "security cooperation and the situation in Ukraine."

Mieszko Pawlak, a top foreign policy aide to Duda, told reporters ahead of the talks that the two leaders would explore "possible scenarios for stopping Russian aggression."

He described Finland as a key NATO ally and "a flank country with extensive experience in defending against hybrid threats and in combating migration pressure."

Finland last year accused Russia of flooding its borders with migrants from the Middle East and Africa and erected protective barriers at its border with Russia to stop migrants from crossing into the country, according to reports at the time.

According to the Finnish President's Office, the main aim of the talks was "to discuss bilateral relations between Finland and Poland, current NATO issues, support for Ukraine and the security situation in Europe."

While in Warsaw on Tuesday, Stubb attended a gathering of Polish ambassadors from around the world and took part in a panel discussion on the security situation in the Baltic Sea region, together with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski

Stubb, a centre-right pro-European politician and a strong supporter of Ukraine, took office as president of Finland on March 1.

In early April 2023, Finland formally joined NATO, becoming the Western military alliance’s 31st member in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tuesday is day 930 of Russia’war on Ukraine.
