Russia launched several Kh-101 air-to-ground cruise missiles, as well as Kinzhal missiles, with additional strikes carried out from naval vessels stationed in the Black Sea. An air raid alert was declared across the entire territory of Ukraine.
Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv Regional Administration, announced that cruise missiles had been detected in the airspace. He warned on Telegram, "The missiles are heading west. There is still time to reach a safe location."
In reaction to the attack on western Ukraine, the Polish Air Force began operations within Polish airspace. In line with established protocols, the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces mobilized all available resources, including deploying standby pairs of fighter jets.
“These measures aim to ensure security in areas bordering the threatened regions. The Operational Command is closely monitoring the situation, and all forces and assets remain fully prepared to respond immediately,” the statement announced.
Update: Polish air force operations concluded
Two hours after the morning announcement, military air operations in Polish airspace were concluded following the cessation of long-range Russian airstrikes on Ukraine.
Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to their standard operational mode.
No violations of Polish airspace have been reported, confirms the military.
The Polish Armed Forces continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain in full readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to pay an official visit to Poland today.
