News of Washington-Moscow talks on ending the war reached Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha while he was in Paris for the Weimar+ Triangle meeting.
Speaking to French journalists, he said he was not surprised by the Trump administration’s initiative and called for a lasting peace agreement negotiated with European partners and backed by security guarantees.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine hopes to accelerate the peace process and end the war this year, stressing that no decision should be made without its involvement. He noted that a lasting peace is also in America’s interest and should be the most significant diplomatic achievement since World War II.
Rejecting any territorial concessions to Russia, he pointed out that the U.S. has yet to finalize a peace plan. He also highlighted that Ukraine would strengthen NATO with its battlefield experience and reaffirmed that joining the alliance remains the best security guarantee.
